Witness For Truth That Brings About Justice

His works are truth and his ways are justice, and He brings low those who walk in pride. (Daniel 4: 37)

Our God is a God of truth and justice. He expects from his people righteousness of life and to live as examples of the truth that overcomes evil. God shows us his favor when we speak the truth even if those who are opposed to the truth besiege us.

Scheming peddlers of lies have come out of their dens in attempts to cover-up and smoke-screen with more lies the revelations of Mr. Rodolfo Lozada on the involvement of the family of Mrs. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo with the anomalous ZTE broadband deal. The testimony about her husband’s involvement with the anomalous deal along with the other members of the President’s official family reflects the condemnable extent of fraudulence and high degree of corruption in government.

This controversy brings into mind the endless string of scams that surround the presidency of Mrs. Arroyo - the (1) P1.1 billion Diosdado Macapagal road scam, (2) P200 million Jose Pidal account, (3) $503-million North Rail project, (4) P728-million fertilizer fund, and (5) MalacaƱang pay-offs and bribery of government officials, to mention a few. These demonstrate the ignominious culture of corruption that infects the present government. These are clearly issues of bureaucratic corruption and plunder that continue to impoverish the Filipino people.

In the midst of this malady, the Iglesia Filipina Independiente believes that the Filipino people must know the truth and assert justice. We believe that a presidency that compromises moral integrity and values of public service must be brought into accountability. It is the sacred duty of the Filipino people to defend the common good over and above the interests of a few individuals, even if they include the highest official of the land. It is immoral to tolerate a presidency that repeatedly betrays the Filipino people’s longing for good governance.

We firmly believe that the present crisis brought about by greed for wealth and power should be stopped. The Filipino people deserve a president and a government that would genuinely promote their welfare and well-being and uphold their interests as citizens of the country. The people’s mounting call for Mrs. Arroyo to step down from office is a just cause. We strongly urge all the faithful to support the people’s option.

Let our commitment to the message of the Gospel of Christ continue to be the source of our strength to have the truth prevail over falsehood and deception. Let us also find inspiration in the courage of those who speak the truth and with them continue to thread the path towards the establishment of just society under a government that genuinely serves the interest of the Filipino people
